Battling Anxiety? (1min read)

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool Superstar) came out this week to talk about his long time battle with anxiety. It was a bold decision frankly, considering his fame and successful career. A number of celebrities came out to express their views on the subject, which I can conclude that everyone battles with anxiety sometimes.

Anxiety according to Oxford dictionary is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.

The feeling of anxiety comes naturally when you decide to step out of your comfort zone but how you respond determine whether you would overcome it or you would be screwed. I remember many days in my life when I had to battle thoughts, especially with fear of the unknown. And the “What if” questions: what if I fail? what if it doesn’t work? what if I am not chosen? what if…this or that? Twas very difficult as I couldn’t talk to everyone about my situation.

I thank God for the Bible. I thank God for Philippians 4:6. This scripture was the antidote to my situation. It reads  “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.” (AMP, Emphasis added).

I started talking to God about my situation, highlighting every little details about it. I didn’t hold back on anything because I realized that friends and family may judge me wrongly but God wouldn’t. As time passed, I started experiencing what the Apostle said in Verse 7; And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

To make it quicker, I combined the above scriptures with what Jesus said in Matthew 6: 25-31:

“Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by worrying can add one hour to [the length of] his life? And why are you worried about clothes? See how the lilies and wildflowers of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin [wool to make clothing], yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory and splendor dressed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive and green today and tomorrow is [cut and] thrown [as fuel] into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’

guard your heartAs you STRETCH beyond your boundaries, the enemy will throw thought bomb at every step you take. He will try to stop you with negative thoughts so guard yourself with the WORD so that you will be able to put him where he belongs.

Can you write ONE THING you think God can’t provide?

I bet your answer is as good as mine. Therefore Don’t be anxious about anything in this life because God is more than able to supply everything you need. He is the Creator of everything we see. He spoke and the world came to existence. I believe He will SPEAK for your situation to turn around. ALL you have to do is to Ask and Believe that He will work in ways Best known to Him.

Be Proud of “YOU” (1min read)

IMG_0545It’s nice to be YOU…no two ways about that.  And If nobody supports you on that, know that God does because He created you to be you. This would be categorized under emotional Stretching. Some folks love to play around with our emotions, always desiring to be happy instead of us being happy.

Often times we allow those guys to put us in box which deprives us of the Joy of living in the present.

We go to the gym because they want us to; we slim because they want us to; we gain weight because they want us to; we go outing because they want us to; some smoke, drink, do drugs in order to make others happy. The question is;

  • What about you?
    • What do you want to do?
  • What makes you happy?
    • Do they care about that too?
    • or Complain?

Maybe its time you take critical look at your life and make some U-TURN.

The truth is that as long as you live to please people, you will miss the essence of living on purpose. This is because God plans for you is different and he made you the way you are to suite that purpose.

20121128-100456.jpgYou shine as light when you live You so don’t let anyone dim your brightness

You are one of a kind that is why your finger prints are different from mine. Therefore let people know who you are and what you stand for. Outline your values and stand by them. Sometimes it’s good to consider making allowances but those allowances should not change you into a different person.

I believe it’s quite appropriate for you to be convinced about the change they are talking about and the relevance of it to your purpose. For instance if you are lazy and folks want you to be active and work hard so that you don’t become poor…Hey!…you better listen because being lazy is no good and when you become poor, you may burden them.

Another dimension is that When Adam said that the woman made him ate the fruit, God didn’t spare him and said it wasn’t his fault. Living to please people could have eternal consequences, especially when it makes you miss your purpose in life.

Don’t stress yourself to please people. It may be difficult saying No but I would encourage you that it’s time you tried. If they would go or leave your life because you wouldn’t be their (emotional) puppet, be strong and let them go. For God will introduce people who would love and cherish you for who you are.

Take note: If you aren’t convinced about yourself or your traits or your values, you will fall for emotional suckers. Be proud of who God made you to be and live according to His Word.

There is something special about this Month and I wasn’t surprised when The ONE WORD that dropped in Spirit is STRETCH. This is because if we are going to reach our full potential, and to achieve what’s on our checklist, we’ve got to STRETCH.

Do you want to see/achieve something bigger, better, and greater this year?

Are you ready to STRETCH?

Let’s play around with imagery; assuming that you need something badly, say a pen, pencil, or bottle of water but it’s kept at a distant. Secondly, there is no one (around) to pick it up for you. This will leave you with two options;

  1. You STRETCH your hand or
  2. You MOVE from your seat to pick it up.

You can’t sit and expect the pen, pencil or water to walk to your position. It’s the same with your dreams, aspirations, goals, objectives, etc.

Often we expect our faith to cause the object to move to us when our FAITH expects us to STRETCH for what we seek.

STRETCHING requires conscious effort which means that you have to be intentional about it.

In simple terms, I would say To STRETCH means to do something above the ordinary. That’s going a little extra beyond your limit every day. It would require you  moving beyond your COMFORT ZONE.

I expect God to do more for me each day so I am ready to STRETCH (in health, financing, spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, etc). I am ready to STRETCH my Faith to a new level.

Jesus wants us to enjoy life so quit being passive and STRETCH to enjoy the Higher Life.

I would share more on STRETCHING in many areas of our lives this month as the Spirit directs which I believe would be a blessing in a walk with God. JESUS is our strength therefore we can STRETCH.
