Understanding His Purpose, His Promise, and His Timing (Part 2)

Introduction:

In the previous section, the focus was on understanding His purpose(s) for your life, and promises concerning those purpose(s). In this section, the focus would be on understanding His timing. Then the last section would be about how one can miss His purpose, promises, and timing.

His Timing for His Purpose

But when the right time came, the time God decided on, he sent his Son, born of a woman, born as a Jew, to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law so that he could adopt us as his very own sons.

(Galatians 4:4-5, TLB)

Understanding God’s timing is the challenging part because God doesn’t work with our calendar. We are accustomed to living on schedule, matching time with efforts, and always striving to be proactive in daily affairs. But in reality, it’s like God drives at 10 mph on a freeway, when in fact no one seems to be ahead of the road. It’s frustrating when you are a passenger in such scene. The truth is that our urgency doesn’t move God. He works according to His Time.

About Jesus: the scripture says He was chosen before the foundation of the world. So one would wonder why God waited for so long before sending Jesus? Surprisingly, the Scripture says “when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law” (Galatians 4:4, NLT).

Isaiah’s prophecy about him also took some 700 years before the “right time” came.

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.” (Romans 5:6, NLT).

Again, it’s not about our urgency but about His time, the right Time.

“…At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.” (Isaiah 60:22, NLT)

Only God knows the RIGHT TIME. That’s why PATIENCE is key when it comes to TRUSTING God’s TIMING. You can’t do that by sight, but by FAITH.

  • Think about these;
    • at age 54, Jacob had nothing to boast of as custodian of Abraham’s blessings. That was about 14 years after his father Isaac had blessed him. He went through unfair treatment but at the right time, when God intervened, within 6 years, he became wealthy.
    • How about Moses? at age 80, God called him and revealed His (God) purpose for him. And He lived the next 40 years living his purpose.
    • Joseph’s dreams were beautiful, but he had to wait till age 30 before he rose to prominence.
    • David got anointed at age 17 but had to defeat Goliath, fled from Saul many times, etc before becoming King at 30.
    • But Jeremiah was young when he was called into Ministry. And Manasseh, who became king at age 12.
  • It’s about HIS RIGHT TIME for each individual

Here is what I believe: The WAITING period is PREPARATORY period. God uses this period to toughen you up for the task. In the Toyota analogy (in Part 1), when Toyota finishes designing a beautiful model, they use certain amount of time to TEST the car and also considers market conditions before releasing the car to serve its purpose. These processes take time, sometimes up-to 4 years. How much more HUMAN? God doesn’t do recall like Toyota or other manufacturers do.

Conclusion:

God is working on your case. He is preparing you for His divine mandate. Sometimes, like Jacob, you may feel nothing is working considering the unfair situation you might find yourself. Or like Joseph, you may feel incarcerated and each day pass by with less hope of seeing the light or your dreams coming to pass. Or maybe like David, you know what’s in there for you yet you are being chased to death. Don’t despise these moments of your life because at the Right Time, His Glory would be revealed and you would witness the manifestation of His divine purpose for your Life. Hold on and don’t give up.

It Shall Come to Pass (30Sec Read)

God's time“This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.” (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT)

Susan Boyle couldn’t win Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 but what she did surprised many. She was 47 years and unemployed when she went to audition for Britain’s Got Talent. According to her, she had a dream of becoming a professional singer but she hadn’t had the opportunity to make that dream come to pass. So at 47, she finally decided to move beyond her limitations. In short, her dream came to pass and the world applauded for her outstanding performance.

Could it be that you have waited for so long and nothing seem to happen?

The scripture says “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Habakkuk 2:3 KJV).

Everyone has dreams, aspirations, desires, etc but God has set time for everything we need. Consider this for a moment: Why does regulation permit a person to drive or apply for drivers’ license after certain age (say 14, 16, 17, or 18) depending on the jurisdiction?

You may have time set for your dreams but God, who is Omnipotent and Omniscience, knows the PROPER time to release the blessings. He is always on time. The vision you have is for appointed time.

But when [in God’s plan] the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the [regulations of the] Law, (Galatians 4:4, AMP)

Someone once asked me that “Why did Jesus wait for thirty years before he began His ministry? Don’t you think Jesus could have done more if He had started before thirty?”

I replied that “There is a set time for everything under the sun. And all we have got to do is to wait patiently, keep preparing our field, and Trust God for what He has promised to do. It pays to wait patiently than to give up.”

“Those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” (Isaiah 40:31 AMP)

Friend don’t give up on your dreams. When you are tempted to give up, look up to Jesus for strength. Keep on moving forward and trust that God will work things out for your good. When the time is up, nothing can stop you. Susan didn’t give up. And her dream came to pass at age 47.

Be encouraged today that IT SHALL COME TO PASS.

How long, Lord?

It’s easy to get discouraged when God doesn’t answer the door as soon as you press the doorbell. Actually, no one keeps to time like God. But, God doesn’t fix or reckon with time the way we do. So, our sense and appreciation of time differ from His. The scripture says he makes everything beautiful in its time. He has set time for your needs to be met. Your Father is always on time.

As human, you may be tempted to get worried and ask questions when you don’t see results at your set time. You may feel that God hasn’t heard you, or he is keeping long in responding to your needs. Maybe you are praying for Job in the first half of the year but nothing seems to be working. Or you are praying to meet the right person and no one seems to be interested in you. It could also be that you are expecting miracle in a particular area of your life. David faced similar situation when it looked like God wasn’t answering his prayers.  In Psalm 13, he asked;

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?

How long will my enemy triumph over me?

(Psalm 13:1-2, NIV)

This is what it means when you find yourself at a point where you feel that you have been left alone; God wants you to act on your Faith. An example is what happened in the ship when the disciples of Jesus asked Master, carest thou not that we perish? (Mark 4:38, KJV). In verse 40, Jesus said to them “why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?

God already has your days written in his book. His word says that “Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). He will never leave you, nor forsake you. Thus when you will have started to feel that God has left you in your situation, the loving Father whisper from above that “No child, I am with you. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
