Glorious Days Ahead

One attribute of God is that He is the God of progression. That is He always takes the next step forward. Anyone who walks with God moves from one level of glory to another, and you are no exception.

In the scripture, Jacob (Israel) left for Egypt when they were but a few in number. Only One, Joseph, went ahead to Egypt before the others joined him but in the end, they grew to millions in some 400 years. This same Egypt, which became a land of torment because they were slaves, was a secured nest or shelter God used to ensure that they were not scattered with time and also to keep His promise to Abraham. Egypt was not a stumbling block but a stepping stone for God’s children.

Today, you may be caught up in some Egypt (a profession, a relationship, a location, a company, a situation, etc). It was a good decision at the time but now it appears that you are caught up in a dungeon with no hope of seeing light. When you consider God’s promises for your life, like Israel, they are far from reach and your faith is gradually drowning in the waters of life.

Life has ways of knocking out your hope for a better tomorrow. Think about; Joseph landing in prison, or Moses running away from royalty, or Israel celebrating freedom only to appear before the red sea, or The Apostles witnessing Jesus’ death when they thought He would be with them longer, or Mandela in prison, or Steve Jobs getting fired from Apple, or Tyler Perry being homeless, or Elon Musk being broke and living on loans from friends, etc.

But regardless of how hard life hits you, remember that your God is the God of progression. He never intended for you to start a journey with Him, then ditch you halfway. His plan is to give you hope and a future. His plan is to help you achieve your purpose in this life. That was why He sent Jesus Christ. He is the orchestrator of the whole creation. The Bible says that without him, nothing was made that was made. That is everything you see was created by Jesus Christ and they revolve around Him. Thus with Him in your life, you have the propensity to create, attract, achieve everything you desire. This Egypt you see is not a stumbling block but a transitory moment.

So stop dwelling on how bad or challenging situations have been and look forward with hope that with Christ, your glory days are ahead of you. Soon you will look back and share your testimony to inspire others. All Glory to God. Amen

Important Lessons From a Blind Man

The story of blind Bartimaeus has some secret codes you should learn in your walk of Faith. It’s worth noting that Faith is your currency and it gives you the power to withdraw from God’s unlimited resources.

Bartimaeus might have heard a lot about Jesus so when he heard that Jesus was passing by, he knew it was a great opportunity he wouldn’t miss. Mark records that there were many people around Jesus. This would mean that one has to do something extraordinary in order to get Jesus’ attention.
In Bartimaeus’s case, all he could do was to shout when he felt Jesus was near since he couldn’t see and his helper (probably) wasn’t around. He didn’t want to miss this opportunity so he shouted “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” This humble cry for help became a nuisance to the crowd. Consequently, he was rebuked and told to shut up. However, the people’s reaction didn’t deter Bartimaeus from grabbing his opportunity so he even shouted louder till Jesus heard him.

Bartimaeus didn’t see Jesus as those around him did yet he believed that Jesus was his last stop. I believe this was what caught Jesus’ attention.

Finally, the people who once shut him up began to cheer him up when Jesus heard his cry and called him to come.

Lessons:

  • Know what you want: Often we assume that God sees our situations and that we expect an automatic reaction from Him. From Bartimaeus case, one would have thought that Jesus would call him and perform the miracle but it’s one thing seeing what a person is going through and another thing knowing what that person want. Therefore when you go to God in prayer, remove assuptions and be real with your feelings and needs. Bartimaeus was straight with his needs. In simple words he said “Rabbi, I want to see”.
  • Make every effort to seize opportunity when it passes by: When you know what you want, it becomes easier to see opportunity. Bartimaeus was a beggar. People saw him as a person who wants money, food, etc. It may never have crossed their mind that he needed something more than that. Yet his demonstration when he saw Jesus proved that he wanted to be free from that mess. This energized him to do all he could to get Jesus’ attention. Do you know that many people around would have been an opportunity for him to ask for more money, food, etc? But he knew his priorities. He knew that that day was for a higher purpose. Some opportunities don’t appear every day, especially those that can change your life for good. Thus when you see one, make every effort to grab it.
  • Focus on what you want and not the people around you: People rebuked him and told him to shut up but the same people turned around and told him to cheer up when his effort yielded the desired result. This is evident in a football game; spectators often boo a player who misses an important chance to score but later shout his name when he focus on the game and score more. Don’t focus on people and don’t listen to them especially when your inner conviction is strong and you believe that that moment is the moment you have been waiting for. It’s possible you are waiting on God for better job opportunity, then one pops up but people(friends, family, etc) tell you that you don’t qualify. Here is the truth, when you go for it and get it, same people will come to congratulate you.
  • Let Go the Old in order to Grab the New: Bartimaeus understood that “forward ever, backward never”. He threw away his old garment as he went forward to meet Jesus. In order to grab your life changing opportunity, you must to be ready to let go some ideas, behaviours, beliefs, etc. Some opportunities would require that you quit smoking, or lying, or gossiping, or womanising, or anger, or laziness, etc. You know what I am referring to and it shouldn’t hold you back. Something definitely has to go so that you can be free for the new life.

I trust that God has great opportunities coming your way and you should be strategically ready to grab them. They will change your life for good so that you would ascribe all Glory to His Name.

Start Again

Winning is a good thing because it makes us happy and urges us to keep moving on. The serenity that comes with it is an awesome experience (like lullaby) that put your body, soul and spirit to sleep. I love to WIN, after all nobody starts a journey with a goal of losing.

The other side is Failure. Nobody wants to fail, not even the team at the bottom of the league table. However, our teachers spent more time teaching us how to react to success than to failure or set back. Failures were associated with shame, pains, and (in my primary school) some strokes of at the back. Parents easily shame their kids for failing. Friends laugh at colleagues, etc. Culturally, it hurts to Fail so people who fail give up easily.

The reality is that Success and Failure are part of the journey. The Bible calls certain periods “troubled times”, or “time of disaster”. It chance upon us all. Those are times we experience failures, setbacks, disappointments, rejections, not finding our foots, etc. They come not to destroy us but build our resilience for God and our trust in His word. If we were properly trained to deal with failures and disappointments at the early stages of our lives, these times would not catch us by surprise.

Maybe your orientation about dealing with Failure wasn’t the best, the scripture provides some assurance for you as a child of God. In Proverbs 24:26, the scripture says that For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of disaster and collapse. In effect, Failure doesn’t stop you. You keep pressing on till you Win the race. God has promised to be with His children through the waters and fire. In the wilderness, He has promised to lead us and provide water to quench our thirst. His word would guide us to Succeed in the end if only we don’t give up.

You are a poor specimen if you can’t stand the pressure of adversity

(Proverbs 24:10, TLB)

Do not rejoice against me, O my enemy, for though I fall, I will rise again! When I sit in darkness, the Lord himself will be my Light.

(Micah 7:8, TLB)

The world we live in is experiencing a time of disaster and many homes are hit. It’s possible your plans for the year are thrown into disarray. You look at the clock and start to think IT’S OVER. People you know may appear to be on track but know that this your “night period” may be their “day period” or they are resiliently optimistic and pushing through their “night period”. Be encouraged to pick yourself up and Start Again because God isn’t through with you yet.
