Reach Beyond Your Limits (Part 2)

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us.”  (Ephesians 3:20, AMP)

cropped-eagle.jpgGod created you to live prosperous life. His purpose for sending Jesus wasn’t only for you to spend eternity with him but also for you to live as a royal son/daughter on earth. He has showered so much blessings upon your life that whatever you decide to do prospers.

God doesn’t set limits or boundaries for us; they are set by ourselves. We build boundaries through the process of socialisation and the environment within which we grow or learn. We set these mental imageries that keep us bound for many years, if not our entire years on earth.

Sometimes physical situation(s) like sicknesses, disabilities, skin diseases, poverty, etc create limits for people. It makes them believe that they can’t achieve greatness like anybody else.

No matter what the challenge might be (mental imageries or physical challenge), God has a way of making you live a life of purpose. He has destined you to succeed in whatever you choose or decide to do.

In 2 Kings 7, we read of four lepers who were outcast. They couldn’t go into the city because of their ailment. They weren’t recognised by people because they (people) believed nothing good could come from them. In those days, there was famine in the city that led to anthropophagy. The Word from God was that “Tomorrow about this time a [a]measure of finely-milled flour will sell for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria” But nobody knew how that was going to be possible.

What made the promise come to pass was that these four “good for nothing” lepers defeated their fears, overlooked their ailment and decided to match toward the enemy’s camp for food. Two things I want us to consider are:

  1. They had a need, or goal, or mission
  2. They faced insurmountable challenge

Before they could have food, they had to face the enemy. And facing the enemy meant that there were either going to live or die. They didn’t have weaponry to fight and besides they were only four. Yet they chose to do the ordinary by walking to the enemy’s camp.

The Bible says that “when they came to the edge of the camp, there was no one there. For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the sound of chariots, and the sound of horses, the sound of a great army. They had said to one another, “The king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come [and fight] against us.” So the Arameans set out and fled during the twilight, and left their tents, horses, and donkeys, even left the camp just as it was, and fled for their lives. v5-7.

When the lepers did the natural, God did the supernatural. When they did what they could, God did the extraordinary. It turned out that they achieved what they went for with less or no struggle. The greater part of the task was defeating their fears and deciding to take steps regardless of the outcome. I could imagine the kind of thoughts that ran through their minds as they walked towards the camp. But in the end, they became heroes of Samaria and God achieved His purpose through them.

Conclusion:

When you take a critical look at your life, what are the challenges or roadblocks that stand before you? Could it be that you want a college degree but you don’t have the funds? You may not have enough money to pay for the fees but the little you have can pay for the forms or application fees. Go ahead and apply believing that God would do the supernatural. If it is about work, keep sending CV and apply and trust that God has an angle along the path to help you. If it is about marriage, new business, new market you want to reach, ministry you want to start, book you want to write, whatever it is that you want to do, my questions are:

What ordinary thing can you do today?

What steps can you take today?

What phone call can you make today?

What letter can you write today?

Where can you walk or drive to today?

Don’t let the enemy deceive you into thinking that you don’t qualify for that. Remember what Apostle Paul said “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” (Philippians 4:13, AMP)

Note that these lepers didn’t have the Holy Spirit on the inside so imagine what you (having the Holy Spirit inside of you and Jesus interceding for you) can accomplish if only you could do the natural or ordinary?

My Little Story: Do You Believe?

images (5)It was a sunny afternoon and I had just popped out of the office to get a bottle of drink. I met a student (Nigerian) who had earlier professed his faith in God and our Lord Jesus. He demonstrated strong Faith in God and I really liked his lifestyle. So I decided to ask him some questions I have been asking other believers to help them grow in faith. This was what ensued between us:

Me: How are you doing man?

Student: Am doing good man of God. How about you?

Me: I am doing same. As you can see me smiling with my chilled drink

Student: hahahaha! Glory to God

Me: bro, as our Lord God lives, can you help me with £250. I need it badly?

Student: man of God, you know that we are deep into the semester and my parents haven’t been paid so I don’t have that much in my account.

Me: Okay, how about tomorrow. Can you? Do you believe that God can direct money into your account?

Student: I believe but my parents….God uses my parents so I would have to talk to them or lets us wait till month ends.

Me: Do you limit God that much in your finance? Don’t you think he could use other means to supply the money? Often some people are quick to judge the king’s guard in 2 Kings 7 for doubting Elisha’s prophecy. You see, the guard considered all other things physically possible, that is Samaria was under siege and there was no way food could come in or go out. People were eating human flesh and the situation was that bad. Besides, the guard was probably aware that farmers sow and wait for months to harvest. Therefore Elisha telling them of abundance overnight was something unusual. He doubted. But God had plan in place to ensure fulfillment of the prophecy. He used what was otherwise impossible, unwise, rejected, trampled upon to accomplish His Word given through Elisha.

Tell me bro, is anything too hard for our God? We don’t get answers to prayers because we want or expect God to work in the usual way. That is how we perceive things to be done. So if your parents are no more, how do you expect to get money?

Now tell me, do you believe that God can send money through other means you have not thought of? Do you believe that God can do it His way?

Student: Yes I believe. Thank you so much for the insight. Maybe I should buy you one more drink because I have been limiting God for so long. God bless you

Me: God bless you too for your time.

God’s ways are above our ways and His thoughts above ours. He works in ways we cannot see or imagine. In 2 Kings 7, He used people Samaria thought that nothing good could come from them. They we not counted for because of their ailment But they were objects God used to perform miracle for Samaria or to fulfill His promise of abundance.

20121125-121349.jpgThroughout the Scriptures we read stories of how God used unimaginable ways or means to fulfill His Word, Ways people thought was not possible. He used people who were not qualified to do great works, and to fulfill His Word. That is why I always encourage people to leave “The How” to God because He knows the best way to meet our needs. It could be sickness, poverty, job, etc. Whatever it is, He has unimaginable ways of fulfilling his promises concerning your life. Do you believe?

Do you believe that God can send right people in your way, even now?

Do you believe that God can heal you, right now, of any sickness or disease in your body?

Do you believe that God has supply your needs through ways you have never thought of?

Ephesians 3:20 says God

“is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]” AMP

Do you believe?

Two things struck me in His word. The first one is God can make a path in the sea and the Second is that He can make water spring forth in the desert. In effect, if you see only water around or before you and you feel that you are going to be drowned or destroyed, know that He can make a way or he has a path for you. And if you find yourself on a wilderness or desert and you feel thirsty, know that He can make water spring forth for you. Don’t limit God to your ways or natural ways because He has supernatural ways of doing things.

Maybe we can pray the honest prayer of the man in Mark 9:24, “I believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!

Jesus said that

Anything is possible if a person believes” (Mark 9:23, NLT).

Quick scan your life now;

  • Is there anything you want God to do for you?
  • Have you been limiting God’s ways in your life?
  • Do you have unanswered prayer request(s)?
  • Do you believe God has millions of ways to meet your need?

Don’t limit God’s power to perform the miracle you seek. Trust that He will use His way(s) to meet your needs.

I will close with this:

For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]. (Mark 11:24, AMP)

Do you believe?

SOMEONE NEEDS THIS MESSAGE

Birds have hopeIt is a story about four men with leprosy who were outcasts in Samaria because of their condition. They had no hope and no future. They were rejected and people didn’t see anything good coming from them.

One day, they asked each other “why should we sit here waiting to die? We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.” (2 Kings 7:3-4, NLT)

They set out for the camp of the Arameans. Notice here that they did something ordinary but when they came to the edge of the camp, no one was there. For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching. God did the extraordinary. These men were outcasts but God used them to accomplish what Elisha had said that “By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, five quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and ten quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.”

Have you heard the story about the rejected stone? The builder threw it away but it became the cornerstone.

God has plans for everybody. I don’t know what you are going through but what I do know is that God has better plans for you. Maybe you have been rejected like these leper and people around you don’t see anything good coming from you, or from your family. The lepers didn’t sit down complaining about how bad the situation was, and how bad people might have looked down upon them. They got up to do something. They decided to do the ordinary and God turned it to extraordinary.

Friend, if you can do the natural, God will do the supernatural. If you can do the ordinary, God will do the extraordinary. God will use you to accomplish something beyond your imagination in Jesus’ Name. God has plans for you so Keep on doing your best each day and don’t give up.
