5 Lessons For The Christian Journey

One of my favorite scenes in the Bible is what happened before and after Elijah prayed at Mount Carmel for rain. (1 Kings 18:41-46)
It’s among my favorites because there are some lessons we can learn for our Christian Journey.

Storm
  • Mighty rainstorm and Little Cloud:

Elijah had told Ahab to get something to eat and drink for a mighty rainstorm was coming. This was before he climbed to the mountain top to pray. He prayed for seven (7) times before a little cloud about a size of a man’s hand rose from the sea. This draws immediate attention because of the description of the rain (mighty rainstorm) and cloud (little cloud).
When Elijah heard about the little cloud, he sounded the alarm that “If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!” Soon clouds formed and a heavy wind brought a terrific rainstorm.

  • The Contest:

Ahab jumped on his chariot and headed to Jezreel while Elijah ran. In the physical, Ahab had the advantage because he had carrier. However, Elijah had unique advantage in the spiritual because God gave him special strength which enabled him to outran Ahab for the 17 miles journey.

Lessons:

The story highlights the core principles for the christian journey:

  1. Faith: Elijah declared there was going to be mighty rainstorm before climbing up to pray. There was no sign of rain yet he told Ahab to prepare for a journey. Can your faith be seen? Are you waiting for God to show you signs before you make a move? Maybe it’s time you act like Elijah and start prophesying into your future.
  2. Trust: Elijah climbed up to pray because he trusted that the same God who heard his prayer and sent down fire was also able to send rain. He prayed believing that God would supply. Proverbs 3 says Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. Trust is fundamental to every great relationship and it’s a must in your walk with God.
  3. Persistence: Elijah persisted in his request. He never gave up till there was a little cloud. For 7 times he prayed and never got tired. In Luke 11:8-9 (NLT), Jesus said “if you keep knocking enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. And so I tell you, keep on asking and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Don’t give up on your request because your answer could just be a prayer away.
  4. Don’t ignore small beginning: After his shameless persistence, a little cloud popped up. He took it as the sign and prepared for journey. Could it be that your request is bigger than the signs you are seeing? Maybe you want to big break before you move but God doesn’t always work that way. Gird up your loins and begin to run because a mighty rainstorm is coming!
  5. Divine Helper: Elijah was never at a disadvantage because God knew he needed push and He did just that by equipping him with special strength. The scripture says that “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble” (Psalm 46:1, NLT). Be assured that God is ready to HELP in whichever way POSSIBLE to provide the necessary resource(s) (physical or spiritual) you need for your journey.

God has destined you for greatness and nothing can undo His plans for your life. He has equipped you with all you need for a successful journey so stick to Him and don’t go anywhere.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO BELIEVE

November starts tomorrow. How are you preparing to receive the best from The Lord? As we get ready to see the new month, I want you to know that God is able to do what has been difficult for you in this month. When Elisha told the widow to borrow many empty vessels, She didn’t wait to see the oil flowing before she believed. She believed before the miracle took place. Hallelujah! It’s not too late to believe. God doesn’t need 24hours, 60 minutes, or 60 seconds, to perform the miracle you seek. He needs your Faith. I believe God can change your situation before midnight in Jesus’ Name.

Only believe.

Believe that God is going to do something great in your life.

I want to encourage you to do all you can today, and God will handle those you can’t.

Prayer:
Thank you Father for all you have done for us in October. We trust that before tomorrow, we will all see your goodness in Jesus’ Name. I pray you heal the sick, comfort the broken hearted, feed the hunger, promote your children, strengthen the weak, shelter the homeless, cloth the naked, and Lift us up to where we belong. I pray for increase in the lives of your children before the month ends in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God bless you

ON MY BIRTHDAY

Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. Greater is the LORD! He is most feared above all gods. 1 Chronicles 16:24, 25.

27th May is my birthday.HOORAY! It falls on Sunday; wow! first day of the week, and the Lord’s day. I love this day because it always comes with many blessings. Allow me to share with you some few things I do on this day. I will pray for you on my birthday this year.

  1. 1.      The Mirror

It is the first day of the year on my calendar. So what I normally do is I thank God for the past year and I think about things I did in that year. I think about the places I had been, check my requests list to see whether God granted everything I asked for in the past year. I ask myself some questions and try as much as possible to get answer to them. I stand behind the mirror and ask; what would you, or would you not, do if this year were your last year on earth?

  1. 2.      Thanksgiving

I give thanks on my birthday. I thank God for His strength and power upon my life. I thank Him for His provisions throughout the year. I thank Him for His protection and guidance. I thank Him for the Holy Ghost, and Calvary. I thank Him for the forgiveness of sin, and I thank Him for my family and friends. I thank Him for the past year, and thank Him for yet another year.

  1. 3.      Blessings from parents

I call my parents for their blessings. I would never end the day without calling them for their prayers, and their encouraging words. Mum would always tell me about what happen the night before the early hours of 27th May. She would laugh about what the nurse told her when I came out of the womb.

  1. 4.      Fasting

Well, I don’t remember the last time I had birthday party. 27th May is a Fasting day. I give everything to the Lord. I fast and pray. Although I fast on every Wednesday throughout the year, I see 27th May as a special day in my life and God deserves special things from me. I give it all to Him on this day. I pray for strength, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, power, growth, etc. For most people, birthday is a FEASTING DAY; they eat, and drink. That is good but I believe there is a more excellent way to everything. Some will fast, some will feast. Whichever way, God deserves the Glory.

  1. 5.      The way forward

As it is the first day on my calendar, I plan for the year and leave the rest to God. I believe all things are possible with God so I dream big. I live beyond boundaries. Am not limited by circumstances, neither am I tossed by storms of life. I know God has better plans for my future. I don’t worry about tomorrow because the future I seek is God’s past. He knows what to do, and how to get me to the destination He wants me to be. I don’t compare my pace with other people because all of us have got different visions and purposes in life. My strength may be your weakness, and your strength may be my weakness. We are different but one in Christ.

God’s purpose for my life is different from that of my friend, even my best friend or brother. I run the race of life at my own pace with the support of the Holy Ghost. Most people are worried because when they look at their friends, brothers, sisters, etc., they feel they are behind. NO! NO!! NO!!! King Ahab took the lead but when Elijah started running, with the Spirit of the Most High, he outran King Ahab on his chariot. God’s ways are above our ways, and His thoughts above ours. God knows best.

Conclusion

I believe this 27th May would be a wonderful day. As a result, I want to do something special for my friends. This is what I want you to do; send me your prayer requests. I would pray for you on my birthday, and throughout the year. Our Father is the God of all flesh and there is nothing He can’t do. We can pray together. Send your requests to upliftingchrist@gmail.com

I pray you have a wonderful day on your birthday.
