Keep God First

Misplaced priority is real. There people who seem to get everything right but when you observe closely, you would notice that they are missing the main thing. They fail to Keep First Things First.

What are the First Things in your Life?

In 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey talked about the importance of putting First Things First in our lives. That is Highly Effective People focus on what is truly important (first) in their lives. Our inability to do that leads to waste of resources, including time.

In our lives, considering the brevity of it, keeping God First would put every other thing in right perspective because He preordained our days and knows how to orchestrate us to where He destined us to be.

3 Reasons You should Keep God First:

  1. He is your Creator:
    • God is your manufacturer and knows how you can optimize the gifts he placed in you. He also knows how to make you efficient and effective with respect to TIME. Instead of trying to figure things your own, by tight scheduling yourself, create space for Him to Operate in your life
  2. He knows where you are going
    • More like setting your navigation system before setting off for a journey. It directs your path and tells you “You have reached your destination” when you get to your destination. This is man-made device.
    • God directs your path to the final destination He planned before your birth. When He leads, your path is cleared and your destination is certain. You can say like Jesus said that “It is Finished” Or like Paul “I have finished the race
  3. You will be rewarded
    • One beautiful thing about God is that He rewards those who keep Him First in their lives.
    • Matthew 6: 33 (TLB) says “he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.”
    • Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, AMP)

Enjoy Your God First SEASON. You would never regret you did. Be blessed

More than ENOUGH

Economics talks about scarcity of resources and the need to prioritize your unlimited needs. The concept of scale of preference plays critical role in affairs of life.

Let’s talk about scarcity of resources today. The widely acceptable belief is that your resources are limited relative to your needs. You want this, you want that, yet not enough money to buy all. As I pondered on this concept and tried to see the connection it has with God’s Word, I noticed the correlation is negative.

Let’s look at how Mark narrated the miracle of feeding 5000 men and their families with the few loaves of bread. Ref: Mark 6:30-44

When Jesus talked about feeding crowd before dispersing them, the disciples had different view. They thought about how impossible it was to feed the numbers at that moment. It was just impossible to feed such crowd at that remote location. Think about instances when after assessing requirements for a project, job, or something you really wanted to do and just concluded that you don’t qualify. They said what you and I would likely to say that “We’d have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!” (Mark 6:37, NLT)

Although the disciples were right with their analysis, Jesus had different view. Jesus knew that LITTLE in God’s Hands was more than ENOUGH. He asked them to bring the little bread they had, He prayed over them, and the Miracle happened.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) says “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Maybe all you have at this time of the year is LITTLE. Economics principles will tell you it’s not enough. Human reasoning will tell you that you need time to let it grow, or like the disciples, you are wondering “I’d have to work for months to earn enough money”. Maybe what you seek to achieve this year is beyond reach. Maybe every analysis you have done is true but there is another realm which has different set of rules. The LITTLE you have, when placed in God’s Hands, is more than ENOUGH.

Search Your Heart

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33, NLT)

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. (Psalm 37:4, NLT)

cropped-our-god-is-love.jpgThe Lord desires that you prosper and live in good health. As a result, he has put in place everything you will need to be successful in this life, and to spend eternity with Him. In Romans 8:32 (NLT), we are told that “since he did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?”

Notice a common word in Matthew 6:33 and Romans 8:32; EverythingThere is no restriction or limit as to what God wants you to ask from Him. Jesus made it simpler in Matthew 7:7, a popular scripture, when He said “Ask, and it shall be given you” (KJV) and In Philippians 4:6, the Apostle said “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” In effect, don’t put restriction on the things you need in this life because after all, your Father in heaven is ready to give you everything you need in order to live as a king or a queen. The problem is that “You have never asked for anything in this way before. But ask in my name, and you will receive. And you will have the fullest joy possible” (John 16:24, ERV)

I believe you are excited about the truth in God’s word but hold on for a minute because there is something you have to do as a child of God; Make His business your business. That is You have to take delight in Him. The Easy-to-read version translates Psalm 37:4 in a remarkable way; “Enjoy serving the Lord, and he will give you whatever you ask for“. One thing you should note is that; you can’t enjoy, or have satisfaction from, doing something you don’t Love. Frankly, genuine satisfaction comes from doing what you love to do, which will make it right to say that you can’t Enjoy serving the Lord if you don’t genuinely love Him with all your heart.

In the same way, you can’t seek his Kingdom and live righteously if you don’t love Him because you will give up when weariness sets in. Thus, your strong affection for God will push you to want to serve him and to be interested in His Kingdom business.

I want you to search your heart now and determine the depth of your LOVE for Him. See, God gave his BEST, Jesus Christ, to show His love for you. So what are you willing to give to show your love for Him? A point to consider is Jesus acknowledged two people because of their giving; one is Mary Magdalene (who broke her expensive oil) and the widow (who gave all she had). Below are few questions to consider

  • Has He got the best place in your heart, time management, finances, business, relationship with people, family, and/or daily activities?
  • Do you put Him on top of your schedule or he is right below the long list?
  • oh, how many times do you talk to him in a day?
  • Is there anything that takes more of your time, money, or resources more than Him and/or His Kingdom business?
  • How many hours or minutes in 24 hours do you allocate for him and/or His Kingdom business?

Search your heart today to know if you “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind” Luke 10:27

God loves you so much that He demonstrated by giving His BEST for you. Do you love him as much as he does? Search your heart and give Him the Best of you
