We all go through storms. Some we see coming; others arrive when we least expect them.
And when you’re right in the middle of one, it’s easy to become so overwhelmed by what’s happening around you that the storm becomes all you can see.
But I’ve been thinking: what if there is more to the storm than what we are going through?
- Storms can build endurance.
- They can uncover strength and faith we didn’t even realise God had placed within us.
- And sometimes, it takes a storm for us to experience just how mighty the hand of God really is.
But we also have to be careful. The storm can become a distraction. Like Peter, we can become so focused on the wind and the waves that we lose sight of Jesus.
Yet even in all that noise, God is still speaking.
The noise of the storm does not silence His voice. We just need to tune our hearts to His frequency and listen.

So maybe our prayer shouldn’t always be, “Lord, please take this storm away.”
Sometimes we also need to ask the following:
“Lord, what are You saying to me in this storm? What are You teaching me? And what are You building in me through it?”
One day, you may look back and realise that the storm you desperately wanted to escape became the place where you discovered a strength you didn’t know you had and experienced God in a way you never had before.
“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.” — Psalm 18:16
