Earlier this month, I started with a post on showing gratitude and being thankful for what God is doing. The next post was about how God is actively shaping your story even when you don’t see things happening the way you thought they should. Today, I want to focus on where to start if you are feeling stuck or you don’t know how God’s mighty hand is rewriting your story.
Every human being since creation has experienced moments of silence. These are seasons when everything that once worked seems to stop. There is no movement, and the familiar paths suddenly close.
For example, the person you thought would be your last hope finally turns you down, probably because they also need help of their own. The business you thought would thrive begins to make losses. Your health starts to decline, and loved ones begin to turn into foes. At moments like these, you may wonder, “How does the hand of God play a part in what appears to be misfortune?”
From my years of walking with God, I have come to realise that He often moves in unconventional ways.
A new day begins with the night. That’s how God designed nature. There is always a dawn before daylight. How we navigate through the dark moments of a new day should therefore be our focus.
In other words, when you see chaos, it may be a sign of a new beginning. When you see darkness, let your light shine even brighter because a new daylight will soon appear. When you experience rejection, brace yourself for a new beginning.
Joseph, whom we talked about in the previous post, saw his season in the palace preceded by betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment. Yet, through it all, he held on to what he believed. He never let go of his God.
The grave became the entry point for Jesus’ eternal glory. He had to go through the night before the morning of resurrection. Before the highest place of honour came the cross.
Now, if you feel stuck, don’t worry because you are not alone. If anyone has figured out everything about life, then they probably no longer need faith. The truth is that all of us are trying to figure something out.
But for you, as a child of God, there is a place to begin.
It is the place of prayer.
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
— Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
The best place to be during your night season is the place of prayer.
When Nebuchadnezzar issued the death threat, Daniel went to the place of prayer. When Hezekiah heard the news of his death, he turned to the place of prayer. Jesus constantly withdrew to spend time in prayer. When fierce persecution arose against the early church in the Book of Acts, they gathered together in prayer.
Notice the pattern. Whenever God’s people reached a point where human strength was no longer enough, they turned to God in prayer.
As the second half of the year has begun, know that the answers you need for your new day, your new season, your upliftment, your grace, and your direction are found in the place of prayer.
Three Things That Happen in the Place of Prayer
1. Prayer acknowledges that God has the ultimate answer.
Prayer demonstrates your trust in God. It reminds you that He is greater than your circumstances and that He alone has the final say over your life.
2. God sends help.
Throughout Scripture, we see God responding to those who called upon Him. Daniel received the interpretation of the king’s dream that very night. Hezekiah received an answer before Isaiah had even left the palace. The early church prayed, the place where they were gathered shook, and they were filled with fresh boldness.
Sometimes God changes the situation immediately. Other times, He first changes us while He prepares the answer. Either way, prayer is never wasted.
3. Your relationship with God grows deeper.
The more time you spend in God’s presence, the more your prayers move beyond your needs. You begin to praise Him, worship Him, and enjoy His presence simply because He is God. In the end, you realise that His presence is one of the greatest gifts He gives His children.
Today, I invite you to join me in the place of prayer.
Like you, I still have unanswered questions. Like you, I still need God’s help. But one thing is certain: our God hears every sincere prayer, and He will answer according to His perfect will and timing.
May the Lord strengthen your heart, renew your hope, and lead you into the new season He has prepared for you.
