Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].
(Psalm 141:3, AMP)
Before there was Proverbs 13:3 or Proverbs 21:23, King David knew that words can make and/or unmake us, and they have eternal consequences. He understood that the mouth isn’t meant to say anything that pops on the mind. Therefore it was wise for him to seek the Lord’s help in managing his utterances.
Today, would you ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in this area? Remember Jesus’ words;
And I tell you that on the judgment day people will ·be responsible [give an accounting; answer] for every ·careless [idle; thoughtless; unhelpful] ·thing [word] they have said.
(Matthew 12:36, EXB)
This shouldn’t scare you because you have the Holy Spirit to guide you. So before you Speak, Do PAUSE, THINK (about the relevance of what you want to say), SPEAK. I pray the Lord finds us faithful in this area on judgment day. Amen
