“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16, KJV)
- The Questions
I want us to take a moment to answer these questions because when we tell the truth to ourselves, we position ourselves for greatness as we wait for the coming of Jesus Christ.
- How different are you from people around you, especially unbelievers?
- Are people able to tell who you are by the way you live?
- What dent are your leaving for future generations?
- Would Jesus smile at your everyday life?
- Is your light shinning?
- You are Light of the world
Jesus said that “You are the light of the world ” (Matthew 5:14, NLT). Jesus is the Light of the world and he came to live in you from the day you accepted Him into your life. As a result, you became an object that radiate His presence in the world. The world is looking up to you so brighten your corner
- How do you shine?
When you set yourself apart to demonstrate who Jesus is to the world, you change in state. That is your thoughts, words, and actions are guided by the word of God that enables you to cease from doing what the world does. The word of God changes you to be different from others. You live the Jesus’ Life. That is You live as He lived because a servant isn’t greater than his master. You are motivated to keep on doing good deeds, no matter how small it might be, because people are watching you and you are the mirror they look into everyday. Some people wouldn’t lie, cheat, gossip, fornicate, go to disco or casino, or do anything bad because you don’t do them. It will interest you to know how your life is a benchmark for people around you. As you do what you do because of your love for Jesus Christ, you shine.

- Light dominates darkness
Light dominates darkness; it doesn’t matter how big or small it is. The size only determines the coverage. In other words, every little thing you do as christian matters. It has power to change someone’s life and bring glory to your Father in heaven. When you do good to someone in need, or you tell the truth even when it hurts, or you don’t gossip, or you pray for the sick, or you feed the hungry, or you encourage the broken heart, or you don’t cheat on your partner (whether in business or in relationship), or you forgive those who do you wrong, or you seek peace and pursue it, or you don’t fornicate, or you don’t do things like a sinner/unbeliever, or you live holy life, you shine in your corner. It is worthwhile to know that Jesus Christ has given you power to live right. He lives in you. Paul said that he could do all things through Christ who gave him strength. And the same Jesus Christ who gave Paul strength is alive today.
- Dare to be different
The Christian journey isn’t as easy as some preachers preach. It is not just about talking about what you know but living the word as well. If you want to be different, then you must be ready to face resistance from colleagues, family members, church folks, etc. People will call you names, insult you, persecute you, reject you, and even kill you but choose to please God than man. Jesus said that fear Him who has power to kill you and send your soul to hell.
You are light so keep your light shinning. Never be intimated by what someone does to dim your light. So long as you know that what you are doing is inline with the word of God and your spirit tells you that God is pleased with it, keep doing it. Pray for strength and always be in fellowship with other believers.
