Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety. (Proverbs 29:25, NLT)
Luke 12:4, Matthew 10:18
Fearing people is a dangerous trap that can lead to eternal destruction in the lake of fire. Fear of people can hinder everything you try to do, especially living righteously and doing the things you really love doing for God. Fear of people affects our relationship with God as we end up pleasing people instead of God.
Some of the reasons that could lead you to be afraid of people are;
- death
- rejection
- humiliation
- Insecurity
- Etc
Everybody wants to be loved by family and friends. We want to live to enjoy life to the fullest. One thing that most of us forget is that death is a destination we all share. Each person is destined to die once according to Hebrews 9:27. Thus I wonder why some people, including Christians, are afraid to die. Steve Jobs once said “no one wants to die; even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die and get there.” Steve died on October 5, 2011.
You are made up of body, spirit, and soul. Man can only kill, reject, and humiliate the body. Therefore don’t be afraid of what man can do. I will tell you who you should be afraid of, God. He is the One who can destroy both your body and soul. Fear of death will lead you to be afraid of people who threaten to kill you. Paul said “for to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21. Don’t be afraid of death because it is a trap that can lead you into eternal destruction.
The second part of my message is; trusting the Lord means safety. When you fear the Lord, you trust your life under His care. You believe that He alone can change the course of your life, and you find rest in him. There is assurance for the one who fears the Lord;
The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them in famine. (Psalm 33:18-19)
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. (Psalm 34:7, NIV)
Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. (Psalm 34:9, NIV)
The person who fears the Lord departs from evil, and he is not afraid of what mere mortals can do to him. That person isn’t afraid of demotion, rejection, humiliation, death, persecution, etc., and he is secured in this life, and the life to come (eternal life).
Friend, fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
The End is near. Jesus is coming soon.
