So often, we focus on what we have done; our past successes, challenges, mistakes, relationships, etc. The past is good because you are where you are today because of the way you programmed yourself in the past. And your future depends on how you plan today. Though our past has a connection to the future, we don’t have to focus on the past. The past retards growth. When you rely on your past achievements, they prevent you from going or doing further. You have to let go the past, and focus on what you have now to make decisions for a bright future. Yesterdays achievements belong to history. Holding onto the past mistakes, sins, hurts, relationships, memories, etc consume the strength you could use to plan for the future.
Your past is an enemy that can prevent you from moving forward. Today, I want to encourage you to Say NO to the PAST.
Paul said in Philippians 3 that “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” The word I want to call attention to is Press On. You do not have to stay at a point, always refreshing yourself with past memories. You have created a comfort zone for yourself, beyond which you do not want to take any risk. You have to press on because your best days are ahead of you. Have you ever thought about why you always take your next step forward when you are walking, despite the fact that you may stumble, or fall? This should encourage you that your best days are ahead. No matter what has happened in the past, you’ve got to move forward.
Friends, let us prepare ourselves for something better because nothing we have done in the past can be compared to what God has prepared for our future. Spend time getting materials that will make you prepare for the future. Do not waste time repairing the wrong things you did in your past. Repairing waste time and energy, and it pulls you from moving forward. Whatever happened in the past belongs to the past. You cannot do anything about it. The most important thing is to take time, pray, and ask God for His divine guidance, which would enable you make appropriate decisions toward the future.
Think about this for a moment; Great men we see today do not stop at their first successes or breakthroughs. They always push forward. Even software has an update, which erases its past and put on something new. How much more you, a child of the Most High? God does not focus on the past. In Isaiah 43, He said though I made way through the red sea, Jordan river, walls of Jericho fell down, I fed my people for forty years, etc. “Remember not the former things, neither consider the things of old. See I do a new thing….” God does something new each day, and He created you in His image. Why should you let your past life dictate for you?
If someone hurt you in the past, forgive and let it go. Go to the person, and live together again.
If something went wrong in your life, stop blaming yourself. Whatever is it that happened did happen. Nothing you would do could restore that. Just PUSH FORWARD.
If you caused someone pains, destroyed something, etc, it is time to live again. Let the guilt go. The Bible says Resist the devil and he will flee. Resist whatever had held you for years, and it will flee.
If a friend left you, you did not leave the person. Quit worrying and sobbing about that. Today is a new day. You have life, and you have the responsibility to ensure you are always happy. Remember what I said earlier on; God does new things daily. Your best friends, lover, client, job, etc are yet to come. The best in your friends are yet to be seen.
If you won a golden cup yesterday, do not let it dominate your life because your best is yet to come.
Anytime thoughts about the past life come to worry or destroy your happiness, tune in to something new. Let me tell you what you should think about; Philippians 4:8 “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Right now, press the PUSH FORWARD button on your mind, and move forward.

We must not long for our past. It is futile to go back. Learning from it is another matter. Christ and what He has for us must be our focus.

Very true. We have to PRESS ON. We look back to see the goodness of the Lord. We must thank Him for that, and the great things He has for our future. We don’t have to dwell on the past.
