Stay Connected

imageThe image above was used by a professor in a lecture. It illustrates the three biggest fears of our generation. The first one is Weak Connectivity, the second is buffering symbol, and the third is low battery. These three are things people(especially Millennials) want to avoid in order to stay connected with family and friends.

imageSmartphones have become part of us and they bring the world closer regardless of the location. When compared to the days when people queued to make calls in phone boots, or waited for weeks or months to receive reply to letters, or even rushed to internet cafes to send messages to friends and families, it can be said that smartphones are really getting people more connected and closer. The frustration, displeasure, and the fear comes when you do not get connection when needed most, or the phone runs out of battery when needed most. When such happens, everything comes to halt and its kind of you are disconnected from the world. I asked one friend why he carries three phones everyday. His answers can be summed into Connectivity, Buffering, and Low battery. He wants to stay connected with his family and friends.

imageThe first thing I noticed at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam was that Stay Connected at Schipol Airport with free WiFi. There were also plugs for travellers to charge their phones and laptops. This wasn’t new to me because Heathrow and other international airports have plugs for travellers to charge their gadgets. The objective is for travellers to feel comfortable and connect with loved ones during their journey.

Cafes, restaurants, and other social centres in the UK offer free WiFi to attract customers. Companies know that customers want to stay connected, that is chat, send photos and videos, and share their experiences throughout the day so they are investing in that. BT has over 3.5 million WiFi hotspot across UK and Ireland to enable its customers get online easily.

The Message

The message here is that it is critical that we stay connected to our Source(God) throughout the day. We do this by praying and meditating on His Word. Prayer and meditation connect us to God. Just as you charge your phone’s battery in the morning, and carry your charger with you throughout the day so that you do not run out of battery, you have to constantly pray and meditate on His Word to remain connected. God wants to hear you talk about your experiences throughout the day. He also wants you to devote some time to hear Him tell you what to do when you face little challenges. He wants you to read and meditate on His Word because in it you will find answers to your problems.

The world is full of messages of fear and terror but when we live each day with our Maker, His Word comforts us and helps us grow in Faith. He equips us and enables us to face challenges that the enemy will throw at us. He orders His angels to protect us wherever we go and He builds hedge of protection around us. In effect, while others are afraid and worried about the present and future, we have hope and believe that All is Well.

Great men and women we read about in the Bible and other Christian literatures were connected to their Source (God).

God is your Source so stay connected.

Jesus said that “Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.” (John‬ ‭15:4-5‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

In your daily activities, you should know that you cannot be productive without Jesus. If you want to have a great day, Start with Him, Move with Him, and End with Him. When you disconnect yourself from your Source of power, you will go off. Or if you do not charge your “battery”, you will go off. In other words, you walk by sight instead of Faith. The least thing scares you and you become a living dead.

Be encouraged to remain connected and God will direct your thoughts and guide your steps in all you do in Jesus’ Name. I will close with some few scriptures for you to meditate on:

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” (‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

“Pray without ceasing.” ‭(‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬)

“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:41‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

“Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the LORD hears my voice.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭55:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

“But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.”
‭‭(Daniel‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” ‭‭(Joshua‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

How to Have a Great Day

20120527-093200.jpgEveryone desires to have a great day. We make phone calls, send text messages, emails, or use social media to send great day wishes to family and friends. Over the past years, I have found out that people including Christians start their day well but end in bad mood. Such people end up making confessions like; The day was terrible”, “it was stressful”, “my boss was very annoying”, “I was pissed off”, “the day was bad”, “it is the worst day in my life”, etc.

I thank God for granting me this opportunity to share with you 7 habits that, when you develop, will make you have the best of your day.

The Psalmist said in Psalm 118:24 (NLT) that “this is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it”

God wants you to have the best of each day as you enjoy his riches in Christ Jesus. I believe that when you do these things daily, you will realise that truly God wants you to enjoy everyday life.

  1. Commit the day’s activities to the Lord

Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. (Proverbs 16:3)

The first thing you should every morning is to commit your day and everything you have planned to do to the Lord. Spend some quality with God before thinking about your cup of tea or coffee, or turning on your TV or radio to listen to the news. In Psalm 5:3 (AMP), David said “In the morning You hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning I prepare [a prayer, a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart].

The reason why you should keep this first on the list every morning is that God knows best and He sees the end from the beginning. He already knows what will happen in each day of your life. So when you commit the day to the Lord, it means you are giving him absolute control over every activity you have set your mind to do.

Friend if you want to have a successful day, commit your day to the God and He will direct your path.

  1. Be a God Pleaser

Work willingly at whatever you do as though you are working for the Lord rather than for people. (Colossians 3:23, NLT)

Often we want to please people so we get disappointed when they don’t appreciate we do, especially after we have given out our best. You can go an extra mile to do their bids yet they won’t show any sign of gratitude. This can make you bitter throughout the day. However, when you do your work as though you are working for the Lord rather than for people, you wouldn’t be resentful when people complain, criticise, or don’t appreciate what you do. The truth is when you work with this attitude, you work hard because you know that God will reward you for your efforts.

Begin your day with this mind-set that you are a God pleaser and you are not going to be moved by what people say or do.

  1. Meditate on the Word of God throughout the day

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. (Joshua 1:8, AMP)

The solutions you need for each days problems or challenges are in the Word of God. If you are going to overcome temptations, you need the Word. Sometimes we fall into temptation because we neglect the Sword of Truth, which is the Word of God. Our Lord and Master Jesus Christ defeated Satan with The Word signifying that you cannot win your daily battles without the Word. Secondly, The Word guides your thoughts and steps and keeps you from stumbling. David said that “Your words are a flashlight to light the path ahead of me and keep me from stumbling.” (Psalm 119:105 TLB).

You need The Word to live victorious in the World

  1. Be Thankful

In every thing give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18, KJV)

Throughout the day develop the attitude of giving thanks to God for all you do, and for every thing that happens. Thank Him when you get to the office or your destination because He saved you from accident you didn’t see. Thank Him when you take in food or water because He protected you from some chemicals that could have killed or hurt you. Thank Him for the air you breathe. Thank Him for the sunshine. Thank him for His guidance and protection. Thank Him for actions like standing, walking, laughing, talking, hearing, seeing, jumping, running, etc. These things might look insignificant but wait till you see a person who can’t talk, see, walk, laugh, breath, see, jump, etc.

Give thanks to God when things go your way. Even when things don’t happen the way you intended them to be, give thanks because God knows best

When you appreciate the little things God does for you, it gives him the joy to do greater things in your life.

  1. Be selfless

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don’t look out for your own interest, but take an interest in others, too.

 (Philippians 2:3-4, NLT)

We are each other’s keeper. In other words, I should seek you interest while you seek mine. You don’t have to be selfish by thinking about how the day’s transaction or relationship is going to benefit you. Instead, think about how it is going to benefit the other person and yourself. Secondly, you have to humble yourself because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Humility does not mean you think less of yourself. It means you think of yourself less. – Ken Blanchard

If you want to be on top of your day, humility is a key.

  1. Live in the Present

This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24, NLT)

This, I believe, has to be the daily theme for every believer. Today is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Therefore don’t start your day worrying about or brooding over mistake(s) you made the previous day. Start your day right by acknowledging that although things might have gone wrong yesterday, you can make what went wrong right today.

Worrying about yesterday’s issues drains you emotionally and can affect your relationship with others. If someone did you wrong yesterday, today is a new day so let it go and live at peace with that fellow.

You can’t do anything about the past. However, you can make plans today to have a better tomorrow

  1. Help Others

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone – especially to those in the family of faith. (Galatians 6:10, NIV)

Teresa of Avila (1515 – 1582) once said that “Christ has no body but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.”

You are the vessel through which God can reach out to the needy. As a result, look out for ways you can use to put a smile on someone’s face. It could be a cup of coffee, lunch, new cloth, passage from the scripture, or kind words. The scripture says that those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. As you reach out to help others, you will find happiness because those people will have reason to give thanks to God.

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. (Proverbs 11:25, NLT)

Conclusion:

These Seven steps have helped me to enjoy my everyday life over the years. They are easy steps to follow but require discipline.  Make it a daily habit to commit your day to the Lord, work to please Him, meditate on His Word throughout the day, be thankful and selfless, don’t dwell on the past life, and reach out to help those in need. I believe these things will help you to make the best of your everyday life as you wait for the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I Love My BIBLE

20130215-173932.jpg

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8 NLT)

I love my Bible. It is the Greatest Book in Human history; second to none. Voltaire said “One hundred years from today the Bible will be a forgotten book.” Today, Voltaire is gone and his house was used as the book depository for the French Bible Society. They sold Bibles out of his house! It’s now a museum. People have forgotten Voltaire. Nobody forgets the Bible. This confirms what Jesus said “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35 NLT)

I study my Bible everyday, and I meditate on it day and night. These two move together. After I have studied it, I say what it says. The more I study and meditate, the more it becomes part of me. The Bible directs my thoughts, it shapes my words, it tells me what to do, and it is leading me to where God has destined me to be.

It is believed that our thoughts determine our words. Our words determine our actions. Our actions determine our destiny. If this is true, then it sums up what God said to Joshua in Joshua 1:8. When you study and meditate on the Word of God, The Word shapes your thought life. You will think differently, you will start to talk differently, and you are going act differently. Your attitude will change automatically. And since a person’s attitude determines his altitude, your new attitude is going to determine how far you will go in life.

My Bible contains words that lift me up when I am down. I am what it says I am, I can do what it says I can do, and it gives me hope to face the unknown. I have one on my Bed, one on my study table, one on my phone, and other places.

I don’t know what you do with your Bible but I will encourage you, if you study, to continue studying. Meditate on it day and night, do what is written in it, and I can assure you that you will succeed in all you do. Your life will never be the same in Jesus’ Name. Amen
