Distractions Kill Dreams

As I was thinking about how best to talk about distractions in our daily lives, a common analogy that came to mind was two plants with distinct benefits growing on your field. Distractions are not necessarily bad ideas but they sway a person from achieving his/her main purpose.

Oxford Learner’s Dictionary defines Distraction as a thing that takes your attention away from what you are doing or thinking about

Distraction can be the good thing that keeps you away from achieving the best.

Think about this: You have prepared your field to plant Corn and you realize that some Okra are growing among your Corn. It’s one thing if you have the capacity to nurture the two plants, and another thing if you don’t have space and resources.

Corn

Both plants are good. They can grow well on your field and probably fetch you money but if you don’t have the capacity to keep the two, then the Okra can prevent you from achieving your set target for the period. Their presence on your field would mean that they would share nutrients with your corn and probably affect your harvest.

From the scenario above, the Corn is the main objective, plan, target, desire, etc. The Okra is a sidetrack, something you didn’t plan for. It popped up from nowhere, or suggested by other people, or its only appealing to your desires. The field is your lifetime, year (like 2021), moment, season. And the Nutrients are time, money, energy, relationships, etc.

You prepared your year (field) for Corn (marriage planning, kids planning, new business, expansion, new job, new certification, relocation, weight management, etc). But some Okra happened to grow on your field. You’ve looked around you and kind of wonder “what have I done for myself this year?” Every other plants seem to be growing fine but the Corn.

One thing you should note is that different people have different purpose for their fields. That is as you decided to plant Corn in this year, you best friend’s plan was to plant Okra. Therefore don’t be deceived into thinking that an Okra growing on your field is a good thing. It might look good at the moment but it’s not part of your plan this year.

Distraction is a poison pill that kills dreams. It leads to disappointment and misery. It’s objective is to make you feel bad in the end and give up because you would feel strongly that time has been wasted for what is not important. It is therefore important that you know what you don’t want so that you can give your attention to what you want to achieve.

Know that your enemy (Satan) has you marked for distraction so pray and let wisdom guide you in your every decision. Proverbs 4:25-27 (CEV) says that Keep looking straight ahead, without turning aside. Know where you are headed, and you will stay on solid ground. Don’t make a mistake by turning to the right or the left.

Take a quick look back, at the beginning of the year, or your career, business, relationships, family, etc. Are you on track? or somehow distracted? Distraction can be dealt with so start today and your old age will thank you for making right choices.

Perfect Peace in Troubled Times

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

(Isaiah 26:3, NLT)
Storms of Life are inevitable

Isaiah 26:3 is one of the scriptures we can turn to when storms of Life rage. We can’t skip storms. This lead to my grouping of storms into Micro-Storms and Macro-Storms.

Micro are storms that come to individual lives. More like person specific issues you and I have to deal with. On the other hand, Macro storms affect a nation and sometimes the world.

As a child of God, storms aren’t meant to destroy you but to test your FAITH in your God. It helps you to rethink your thoughts and position in God. And often they draw you closer to God.

In recent times, world leaders demonstrated their military capabilities. Russia boasted about it’s hypersonic nuclear missile, NATO talked about it’s military buildup, Turkey’s decision to buy S-400 missile from Russia, and The US signed $738 billion defense bill.

Russia S-400

However, the reality we face is beyond nuclear missiles, fighter jets, bombers, etc. Here is unseen virus terrorizing good and bad people, rich and poor, civilians and military. If this virus could be nuked, it would have been dead and gone. This means that we can’t put our absolute TRUST in military strength.

When focus is shifted to Health Care System, UK is undoubtedly one of the leading countries providing better care for it’s citizens yet unanswered questions surrounding this virus and its transmission have locked the country down. Even Prime Minister Boris Johnson had to go through intensive care. Finally, over 8000 souls lost. There is fear and panic not only in the UK but EU, US, African, and the rest of the world.

If we pull Science on the stage, One would have also thought that with the current level of technology and shared information, Scientists would take days or few weeks to come up with some sort of vaccine. But what we heard was that it would take up to a year to make vaccines available.
Although there is race among countries, big pharms, and institutions to develop vaccines, people are terrorized by the rate of infections and death.

Finally, there are blame games and attacks on WHO, the organisation we thought could provide answers to mysteries surrounding the kind of lifestyle…social distance, wash your hands with soap, hand sanitizers, face masks, don’t touch your face, etc. One would wonder if WHO is autonomous in policies and decision making?

In this troubled time, we can rely on Jesus’ words before his arrest and crucifixion. He said

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

(John 16:33)

Jesus slept in the midst of storm because He knew the storm wasn’t meant to destroy them. Besides, He had control over the storm. He had perfect peace. In the same way, If we can shift our thoughts from worries and Focus on God, cementing our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and Trust in His Word, regardless of our military strength, health care system, money in account, high level of unemployment, recession, etc we will have Perfect Peace.

It’s okay to be aware or informed about developments in your country and the world but don’t let that scare you. Be focused and Guard what you believe. When you are settled from within that GOD, your Father is in control, there would be nothing to worry about. And truly there is nothing to worry about. KEEP CALM.

Power Thought: Week 12

Simon replied, “Master, we worked hard all night [to the point of exhaustion] and caught nothing [in our nets], but at Your word I will [do as you say and] lower the nets [again].” (Luke 5:5, AMP)

imageWeek by week the Lord is gradually ushering our steps onto a higher ground. Let’s not forget that on Christ the Solid Rock we stand, and Nothing shall be impossible if we keep moving forward…always moving one step ahead of the other.

In Luke 5, Peter and his colleagues had worked hard all night and caught nothing. In the natural, it was game over. Their own strength, skills, abilities, expertise, knowledge, etc could not produce desired result. When they thought it was over, that was where Jesus showed up. This reechoes what someone said that Faith begins where ability ends.

This is a new week. Probably things didn’t go as planned last week, It is easy to give up and think that “well, this is just one of the days…I win some, and lose some”. It doesn’t require faith to give up because decision to give up often depend on physical evidence(s). But NOTE that we walk by Faith not by sight.

Behold a new dawn has come and Jesus wants you to lower your nets again. This time don’t rely on your capability (ies) and  do as the Lord, through the Holy Spirit says. Get up and do it again.

This is a new week for a new beginning therefore forget about what didn’t work in the past and focus on Jesus and His Word. Remember, Step by step, week by week, the Lord is guiding/leading you to a higher ground.

God bless you and have a faith-field week.
